WiseDive Canister

The ultimate dive light

Options

(Standard model: 3300 lumen, 11.1 volt/57.52 watts battery, black coolhead)
Coolhead: Silver, copper (additional cost for custom coolhead color: EUR 55.00 ex VAT)
Tech battery: 11.1 volt 7.8 amps, 87 watts (additional cost for tech battery: EUR 90.00 ex VAT)
Lumen output: 5000 (+ tech lens) (additional cost for 5000 lumen (incl. tech lens): EUR 160.00 ex VAT)

Functionality

The new torch is extremely user-friendly and easy to operate with only one switch.

The new WiseDive torch is made specifically for divers (submersible to 500 feet/150 meters) but is equally suited for use on land thanks to the RamFlow cooling system, which works with both water and air as a cooling fluid. So this torch is ideal not only for diving but also all kinds of outdoor work, sports and activities.

Programmable

The WiseDive Canister divetorch can be programmed by connecting it to a computer. You can customize settings for or control the following:

  • Dimming: number of dimming steps and max/min. levels
  • Strobe
  • Boost
  • Temperature setpoint
  • Automatic decrease light

To program your WiseDive torch, you need the Wireless USB IrDA flashlight connector (which you can buy here), and our free WiseIrDA software (available for download here).

The material

The material for the body is shock proof plastic with a teflon-like, yet non-slippery surface, and aluminum for the torch head. Only 180 grams of the total weight of the torch is aluminum, which makes this torch light and very handy.

New patented RamFlow cooling system

The new design of the WiseDive torch head uses forced convection as a cooling system. The principle of forced convection makes it ideal for cooling the surface of the heated torch head, as the cooling accelerates with the rising of the torch head temperature.

Thorough testing

All our torches are tested under pressure. Furthermore the electronics, diodes and lenses are thoroughly tested before the torches leave our plant.

Battery care

To maximise battery life never store your WiseDive torch with the battery discharged or 'flat'. Li-ion battery chemistry does not sustain extended periods of discharge and subjected to this treatment the battery will deteriorate and eventually not hold a charge. Incorrect treatment of the battery may lead to the warranty becoming void. Always remember to fully recharge your WiseDive torch before storage, in fact we recommend you keep your flashlight fully charged at all times. The self-discharge time is 5 years.

Extended battery lifetime

The batteries can do a minimum of 300 FULL charges if handled correctly, after 300 charges the output will decrease by 20%. After 500 charges the battery will need to be replaced.

Since the batteries and the charging is controlled by our intelligent inbuilt charging circuitry the lifetime is maximized. With a daily use of 1-2 hours the batteries will last for many years. When the battery needs to be replaced - it will be possible to refurbish it with a new one (you have to send the torch to an autorized WiseDive Servicepartner to get it refurbished).

Inbuilt Charging circuitry

Every individual torch has its own inbuilt charging circuitry which makes it possible to charge the WiseDive products directly from the car. Our torches take in DC from 13.5 volt up to 18 volt (the reason for using 13.5V as opposed to 12V is, that we don't want to drain vehicle battery unless the generator is running). The chargers (cable and cradle) can be used with all WiseDive torches.

Fly lock mode

All batteries (torches) can be transported by air without special permission, as the amount of lithium is below the allowed equivalent lithium content according the new TSA regulations on lithium batteries (January 1, 2008). Also all WiseDive torches can be "locked", so the light won't be turned on by accident during transport.

Battery Disposal

Rechargeable batteries are the best choice if you wish to protect the environment. WiseDive uses the most environment friendly batteries available, but it is very important that we dispose of all batteries when they are dead. Legislation all over the world are minimum requirements for how to act.

When you need to change the rechargeable battery in your torch this can only be done through a WiseDive certified Service Center. WiseDive will then receive all the used batteries and dispose of these in line with the EU Waste Legislation.

New cooling system using forced convection

LEDs get hot when active, so effective use of the diodes requires effective cooling, which is what our new patented RamFlow cooling system delivers. The new torches actually perform 30% better than we had anticipated thanks to the effective cooling system! And even with the new cooling system and higher output, we have managed to decrease the size and weight of the torch.

The new design of our torch heads uses forced convection as a cooling system. The principle of forced convection makes it ideal for cooling the surface of the heated torch head, as the cooling accelerates with the rising of the torch head temperature. When the air surrounding the torch head flows with a speed of 1 meter pr. second, the effect equals a surface with an area twice as large, making the cooling twice as effective.

RamFlow dive torch cooling system

How the RamFlow works

The new WiseDive torch head is encompassed by cooling channels running along the torch head. When a fluid (like air or water) is heated, it expands. This makes the heated fluid lighter and therefor it will rise, making way for cooler fluid.

When air or water, heated by the diodes in the torch head, moves out of the cooling channel - cold fluid is forced into the channel to replace the heated fluid, this way cooling the "inner" surface of the torch head. The cooler fluid will then be heated and seek upwards, again being replaced by cooler fluid. This current is called a convection current.

The warmer the torch head gets, the faster the fluid gets heated, and the faster the convection current will flow, thus cooling the torch head faster.

Optimal design of the printed circuit board

The heat generated from the 6 outmost diodes, which are placed the closest to the casing, is led directly to the chassis of the torch.

These 6 diodes are placed underneath the middle of the cooling channels, so the distance from the heating point to the openings - front or back - of the channel is the same, making the cooling equally efficient whether the torch is pointing upwards or downwards.

The center diode is farther from the cooling channels, but as the heat from this single diode can be transferred to the surface in more directions on our PCB, the heat from this diode is "divided" equally between all the cooling channels, thus solving the problem of the overheated center diode.

Circuit board cooling

Furthermore, the PCB is made from a special patented material that is extremely efficient in leading the heat away from the diodes.
